We had a great time at Riverfest. Many people stopped by our tent, picked up information, and signed up to volunteer and receive our newsletter. The fishing and ring toss games were a big hit with the kids, and each child received a small prize after playing. We gave out over 200 toys purchased with a donation from Walmart Supercenter on Granada.
OBPD National Night Out, Free Family Fun!
OSLT was an exhibitor at this event In addition to information about the Loop, we had crafts, fishing and ring toss games for the kids with a small prize for each child.
The children had a great time and appreciated the Play-Doh, bubbles, and candy Walmart donated.by Walmart Supercenter on Granada.
The C.a.R.E. team, Laura Ureta, Don Spence and Georgann Meadows surveyed the condition of our trees along an area that is difficult to access under normal times. And six members of the CleanUp Crew picked up over 800 pounds of trash during the weekend, mostly beer bottles and cans along the area from Walter Boardman to Cobb's Corner. The CleanUp Crew was Alicia Oktar, Sonja Lehto, Denise Caruso, Melody Lopez, Bryce Merritt and Nancy Galdo
Thanks to all the 22 volunteers who showed up! Over 400 lbs. of trash were picked up along the highway.
Nine people came out to pick up trash along Old Dixie Highway in the Ormond Tomb Park area. A big thank you to Ken Battan, Alicia Oktar, Sonya Lehto and her son Harley, Maureen Pearson, Laura Ureta, Bryce Merritt, Alan Pillar, and Karen Pillar for joining us! We picked up 8 big trash bags, including lots of bottles and cans, a large piece of bubble wrap, several empty large plastic mulch bags, various smaller pieces of plastic, food wrappers, a few big plastic mulch bags, and a pesticide sprayer. Also, a motorcycle part, a large heavy metal tube, and a few car parts. We estimate at least 400 pounds in total. One of the treasures found was this nearly complete wild boar's skull.
Our small group picked up a lot of plastic that had washed in with the seaweed although not as much as I was expecting as someone had been there before us and collected 2 big trash bags that they left on the walkover. We were also rewarded with some cool treasures from the sea.
The kick-off event for our CleanUp Crew!
